The most efficient types of caulking are those that maintain some flexibility so they do not crack and durability so they do not shrink.

 

Types of Caulking:

 

1. Silicone: lasts 12-30 years, good for all surfaces

 

2. Butyl: lasts 8-10 years, some shrinkage 

 

3. Acrylic Latex Silicone: lasts 12-20 years, easy application

 

4. Acrylic Latex: lasts 8-10 years, for water clean up, no odour

 

5. Acoustical Sealant: for sealing joints in air-vapour barriers

 

6. Expanding Foam: for sealing cracks too large for caulking. Weatherstripping
