The quickest and least costly strategy to stop global warming is to reduce our consumption of energy through energy efficiency and conservation. In New Brunswick, the energy we use to heat and power our homes is the biggest source of greenhouse gases in the province. By doing All Things Efficient in your home, you will be playing a critical role in preventing our planet from warming to dangerous levels.
The
Cent-a-Meter
is a real-time wireless electricity display that shows you the cost, kilowatts, or greenhouse gas emissions at any time in your home. It shows you how much electricity any appliance or electicity source costs or emits in GHG, and has audible alerts for when consumption exceeds set limit. Call Independent Power Systems (IPS) at 506-455-WIND for more details. |

Heating with oil or natural gas creates between 40% and 60% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than heating with electricity. This is because power plants are terribly inefficient. Three barrels of oil must be burned at a power plant to deliver the equivalent of one barrel of oil worth of electric heat to your home. That is why electric heating is a poor environmental choice. Heating directly with oil or natural gas in a high efficiency furnace converts almost all of the fuel you burn into heat for your home. |
